This is the second post I write about CameraSize.com, but this time I want to talk about a new feature, the sharing option. I am a member in many photography related forums, and I read a lot of camera reviews. Many times I see people uploading photos where they compare two cameras side by side. Now with CameraSize.com you don’t have to do that anymore. With the new sharing option, you can share a specific camera size comparison. You do that by clicking the “generate a short URL” link at the bottom of the page.

When you click it Camera Size will generate a short URL, which will redirect the users to a specific comparison that you’ve made. That means that if you compared multiple cameras side by side using the “Compact Camera Meter” webapp, people who visit the link will see that too. Camera Size also saves the way you sort the cameras. So for example, if you’ve sorted the cameras from the smallest one to the largest, people who visit the comparison will see the same sorting that you’ve made, viewing the cameras from the most compact to the most bulky one. This is a very useful feature, which many people are already using on forums, blogs posts and camera reviews.

Right now, there are many digital cameras available for comparison, including the latest ones like the FujiFilm X-Pro1, Canon PowerShot G1 X, Nikon D4 and many others. It really gives you a good feeling how compact a camera is. So if you are blogging and writing a comparison review, don’t forget CameraSize.com.

CameraSize.com has launched a brand new tool for comparing the size of digital cameras. The new tool is called “Compact Camera Meter”, and it includes unique features that the older version doesn’t include, and vice versa. The first thing I love about the new comparison tool, is that you can compare unlimited number of digital cameras side by side, not just two. You can choose from a wide variety of available digital cameras, new and old models, add them to the list and scroll to see them all.

Another asked feature was to be able to sort the cameras by size. Now with the new comparison application, you can sort and order the cameras by weight, height, width and even weight. You can do that from the small value to the higher one (ie. from the highest camera to the shortest), or from the large value to the smaller one (ie. from the shortest camera to the highest).

Another great feature is the option to change sides in just one click, and for all cameras. So for example, you can change the side view from front to rear in just one click, and you will see images that represents the rear side for all cameras (if available).

Camera size is a leading digital camera comparison site, and many people use it to compare digital cameras sizes. I highly recommend visiting the website and trying the webapp.

In this article I want to talk about a new web application. The web app at CameraSize.com allows you to compare the relative size of two different cameras side by side. This camera size comparison tool was developed to make it easier for people to visualize the dimension differences between two digital cameras.

The size of a digital camera does matter, and many people will make their decision based on the size, built quality and ergonomics. When searching to buy a new compact digital camera, it’s hard to comprehend how small or how large a digital camera is by just looking at a single image on a review page. Camera Size dot com is here to help you out. You can choose from a wide variety of digital cameras, compare them in various directions (ie. top, left, right, top, front) and even choose a different camera color when applicable.

Camera Size also allows you to easily share a specific camera comparison on Twitter and Facebook. You can also share a camera size comparison on your mobile phone using a new “Mobile” sharing button at the bottom of the screen. You can find a large collcetion of digital cameras, including DSLR, Mirrorless and compact cameras from various manufacturers (ie. Canon, Nikon, Olympus, Pentax, Sony, etc.).

Comparing two digital cameras side by side on CameraSize.com

In the image above you can see that I’ve compared two digital cameras: Nikon Coolpix P7100 (left) versus Panasonic Lumix DMC-LX5. Although these are not real-life size image, it represents a relative size difference which is very accurate.

Another option exists which allows you to change the camera to different side views (on supported models). You can rotate the camera left, right, top, front or back. By doign this, you can see how both cameras compare when visualizing the differences from various sides.

You can also choose to position camera one over camera two and not just side by side (see left side bar top buttons). At the right side you can see an image of a one-dollar coin, which gives you an option to visualize the size of the camera. If that’s not enough, you can initialize a helper image of an average human male hand by clickign on the “Show hand image” link. This brings up an image of an average adult male hand (174mm), which you can drag around and position it under each camera and better visualize the size of the camera (see image below).

Compare a camear against an average human sized hand

BTW: you can also drag the coin to a different location.

At the bottom of the page, you can find a summary of the width, height and weight differences in numbers and precents. You can chaneg the measurement from millimeters s to inches (see the left side bar).

One of the new coolest options is to be able to share specific comparison with your friends on social networks (ie. Facebook). You can click the “Twitter” sharing button and it will share a specific camera size comparison on your twitter account. Another option available is to generate a short link by clicking on the “Generate a short link to this comparison” button at the bottom. This will launch a new window with a short URL which you can copy & paste on your blog and in photography forums and share others with this specific camera size comparison.

It’s not over yet. you can also share a specific comparison via your mobile phone with a new innovative mobile sharing button (see image below).

Scan the QR code and share a specific comparison on your mobile phone

As you can see from the above photo, a QR barcode is dynamically generated for each comparison. When you start comparing digital camera sizes, you can click the “Mobile” sharing button and you can chose the appropriate option for mobile sharing. For example, you can scan the QR code and Tweet, Browse and (Facebook) LIKE the comparison easily. Of course you’ll need a mobile phone that has a pre-installed QR barcode scanner app. This simplifies the way of sharing specific comparisons with just one scan. Try it, I’m sure you’ll love it!

That’s it! – you’re planning to buy a new digital cameras soon and want to get a better view of your camera versus another camera, this new web application is another tool that will help you make a smart buying decision, especially if you are buying a camera online and didn’t or can’t test it at the camera store.

Consumers who are searching to dive into DSLR photography, are interested in a camera that can deliver high quality images and a camera that will let them enjoy the benefits of a large sensor camera. Although the mirrorless camera segment continues to grab more market share, still, DSLR camera have their own advantages.
Digital SLR cameras like the Nikon D3100 offers a large variety of manual control settings. Those settings allow advanced photographers to get better control over the final image. But it isn’t only about manual controls but also the high quality D-movie (video mode). The Nikon D3100 allows photographers to shoot high quality short movie clips mostly in HD (720p) and Full HD (1080p). The Nikon D3100 can capture up to 10 minutes of Full HD 1080p/24 movie clips.

Some consumers will buy the D3100 because if it’s video capabilities, as other photographers will decided to buy the Nikon D3100 because of its low price and sophisticated camera controls. The Nikon D3100 has an ASP-C sensor, which means that you can capture high detailed image and have better control over the depth of field (DOF). One of the advantage that Digital SLR cameras have over P&S cameras is the ability to isolate the subject from the background by shooing photos with very shallow depth of field. Of course you will need a fast lens in order to achieve it, but it is possible with a DSLR camera.

Before I bought the Nikon D3100 I’ve read many articles and reviews on the Internet. I preferred buying an affordable SLR camera and save more money to buy high quality Nikkor lenses. I bought the Nikon 70-300mm VR and the 18-55mm VR Kit lens. Both have Vibration Reduction mechanism to reduce camera shake and they can produce high quality sharp and contrasty images.

The battery life of the Nikon D3100 is pretty good. You can shoot up to 550 images with it. More advanced Nikon cameras are more powerful and feature rich, but again, they cost more, some models even much more. The affordability of the Nikon D3100 attracted many family and travel photographers to buy it. It wasn’t to long ago that we had to pay over $1000 for a camera like this. The prices went down over the years and no doubt that entry level cameras from both Canon and Nikon have become pretty affordable.

When I unboxed the Nikon D3100, I was surprised to see how small it is. It is really a small camera when compared to high-end models. It looks like a SLR-like camera. Shooting with the Nikon D3100 is a joy. It turn on quickly and it has a very fast operation due to its latest EXPEED imaging processor.

Another reason why I picked the Nikon D3100 digital SLR camera was the low noise in high ISO settings. The D3000 (previous model) had a CCD, while the D3100 has a newly Nikon developed CMOS sensor. You can see the change in the image quality. The camera produces excellent photos in low-light with very little amount of noise up to ISO800. Even at IS)1600 the image looks damn good. I did a high ISO noise comparison between the D3100 vs D90 vs D5000 vs D7000 and the D3100 was performing as good as the D7000. The D90 is a good camera but its utilizes old technologies that puts it behind the D3100 in terms of overall image quality.

I don’t say that D90 photographers should upgrade to the D3100, not at all. I think that D90 owners should actually look into upgrading to the D7000 camera. The D3100 is just another great offering for those who are starting with DSLR photography or for those who don’t have enough money to spend on the more expensive D7000. The price of the D3100 is somewhat the same as the D90 right now. The video quality of the D3100 is much better than the D90. The D3100 can capture 1080p (1920×1080) while the Nikon D90 can only capture 720p (1280×720).

Overall I am very pleased with the Nikon D3100 and highly recommend buying it for every person who want to start with digital SLR photography.

I was very upset when I’ve found out that I have problems with my 60D + 70-200mm F4L IS. I’ve bought the camera and lens a few days ago and already returned them to the store. It wasn’t hard to see what was the problem. It seems that the lens or the camera had severe focusing issues. The camera just couldn’t focus correctly and all my images looked blurry in some degree. You won’t see it as pronounced if you shoot a large subject, but for subjects with details you can clearly see it. It was unacceptable and I just couldn’t stand the fact that I paid a lot of money and got a bad lens/camera.

I wanted to know what the problem was, so I sent them both for the photo lab. Both camera lab test results returned positive, means there wasn’t any problem with either the lens or the camera. I even took the camera and the lens together for checking, but still, nothing is wrong. I was very upset and I was showing the technician the soft images that I’ve taken a few days ago. He told me that it might be caused due to camera shake. What?! – Camera shake?- At 1/1000sec with IS on at 70mm! – From what I’ve heard that morning, I have decided to return both the lens and the camera to the store and get my money back before its too late.

I’ve seen great images taken with both the 70-200mm F4L IS lens and the Canon 60D. I was expecting very high quality images, but I didn’t get those. Some people have commented on my photography blog about it, telling me that they do get very sharp images with that lens/camera combination. I didn’t want to be left with bad equipment after paying a lot of money for it. I have decided to wait for the Sigma SD1, hoping that It will answer my needs. This is life, nothing is perfect – Who knows, maybe the SD1 will be

I was thinking to myself, what is the real reason why Sigma hurried to release the SD1? I thought to myself how I would have felt if I had the Sigma SD15 or SD14 and wanted to upgrade. I probably had already gotten 3 or 4 Sigma lenses and wouldn’t want to sell them just ti get a Nikon or Canon DSLR instead. It seems that going the Sigma path is not an easy decision to make, at least prior to Sigma announcing the Sigma SD1. The best bet would probably go with Canon or Nikon and think to yourself how it could have been if you you’ve chosen the SD1 instead. Photographers who bought a Sigma DSLR did it for only one reason, enjoying the IQ that the Foveon X3 provided.

Now that the SD1 is on its way to the store shelves, it is a good time to organize our priorities and decide whether we go with the SD1 or not. I remember talking about Sigma DSLRs image sharpness on one of the photography forums on the Internet. Someone raised his voice and asked me: “Can the SD15 produce sharper images than the Nikon D3s with a top Nikkor lens?”. I was thinking to myself that I never had sharpness problem with my Canon 400D + 50mm F1.4. It seems that besides the photographer, nobody can’t really tell the difference or don’t even care about that. The fact is that most professional photographers choose Canon or Nikon as their primary working tool and that’s it.

Canon and Nikon will continue to develop and upgrade their DSLR features and come up with better technology, much faster than what Sigma can come up with. Their is nothing more frustrating than the camera limiting your creativity. With Sigma it is all about the Foveon sensor, nothing more, nothing less. Sigma knew that if it will wait too long, many Sigma photographers will do the switch, not because they want to, but because the camera itself limits them.

Maybe we came spoiled with the new capabilities and features of today’s latest DSLR cameras. The truth is that I DO want to be able to shoot images at higher ISO sensitivity levels and I do want to enjoy new technologies. In fact, that’s the reason why we have decided to go digital in the first place, to enjoy its advantages over film cameras. Having the ability to shoot noise-free images at ISO 3200 is a dream come true. I personally know a few photographers that have decided to upgrade to a full-frame DSLR, just to enjoy shooting in high ISO settings without worrying about noise in their images.

Today I thought about talking about the side of online discussions and blogging. As an enthusiast photographer, a blogger and a technology-aware guy, I really enjoy reading gadget reviews on the Internet. I find myself spending a lot of time going through in-depth reviews, blog posts and forum posts regarding news, reviews and user opinions. In some way, I feel that there are some websites that actually write reviews that are more of a marketing channel for selling cameras through their affiliate channels, rather than really write a truthful and honest opinion. Having said that, I really enjoy reading all kinds of reviewer’s opinions. I think that we can all learn more by reading those camera reviews.

As a blog owner myself, I find that the most important thing to do as a blog owner, is to tell your story and share your opinion on the subjects you are writing about. Of course I hear both negative and positive comments regarding my opinion, but that’s the nature of having a discussion where everyone can share its opinion. As a blogger, I find myself hunting for news and headlines regarding digital photography. I have my top list websites, which I visit daily and read news from. I have a RSS reader client who grabs news from various popular and professional photography websites, so I can stay up-to-date with what’s going on. There are some very interesting private blogs on the Internet which I really like and I also visit them daily.

Everybody has its own opinion about what is a good camera and what isn’t. We all have different needs and available budget to spend on camera equipment. Because I am not a professional photographer, I can tell the story from my point-of-view which might be completely different from how professional photographers see it. Some people may find it a bit over-analyzed, while other people will find it very useful and entertaining.

Because the Internet is such a huge virtual space, it is not so easy to find the information that we need. Many times we find ourselves posting questions on photography forums, hopping to get an appropriate answer to our questions. For me, the Internet was the best school. I never though that I will spend so much time reading and writing about my passion for photography and other habits. I might have written articles longer than all the books I’ve read in my life, and that’s pretty astonishing when I come to think of it.

When I come to write about something, I usually write about things that interest me. I find it easier and more fun to write on things that I get enthusiastic about and hope to develop a talkback / Discussion with my blog readers. The discussions on my blog is what gives me the feedback to continue with my effort and supply my blog visitors with good content. Furthermore, I find myself writing on subjects whom some of them aren’t written anywhere. Is some circumstances, I personally logged in to my favorite forums and open a discussion. I mostly like to write it on my blog so I can follow responds and focus writing on subjects that my blog readers are interested in.

When I created my blog, some people told me that I should focus on a specific niche in photography. When I created my blog, I didn’t think about marketing. I wanted to enjoy doing what I do, so I could keep on doing it for a long time. If I opened a blog on a niche subject whom I don’t have an interest in, I would probably would have written only few articles and then quit. The most enjoyable part of having a blog or a review website is that you can share your opinion with the world, hopping that there are other people who will enjoy reading about it.

Photography is an art and a creative way to one person to express himself. It is like singing, painting or dancing. It may be sound funny but I sometimes feel that I become creative when sitting in front of my computer, programming a web or mobile application. I enjoy graphics design too and the combination of my passion for graphic design and photography, really helps me enjoy what I do.

I remember one time when I’ve read a post about Canon lenses on one photography forum which I am a member of. The post was around 15 pages long, full of really bad language comments. Even when one member has asked a question, two other members bashed him just because he asked that kind of questions. I remember personally sending an PM to him and answering him myself. It is all about learning, not (just) about how smart we are and showing the all world what we know, but sharing and learning from others. You can learn from good and bad experience of others.

I welcome you to share your opinion on my blog and if you have any questions, something that I can help you with regrading photography, please comment or send me an email.

Happy blogging to you all and thanks for all your comments.

I am sure that many of you are very glad that the Sigma SD1 digital SLR came out. Personally, I was shocked when I saw the new on dpreview website. Many Sigma photographers have thought that we won’t see a new camera this year (2010), especially not a flagship camera. The Sigma SD1 has a new Foveon X3 sensor. It is time that Sigma will upgrade the sensor. The SD15 and SD14 suffered from green chroma noise in high ISO, and I think that Sigma was managed to correct it. Honestly, if the camera was available today, I would have bought it on the spot. The Sigma SD1 contains dual TRUE II image processors, that will turn the camera to a faster camera with better quality images. First I thought that I will buy the Sigma SD15, but after comparing the image quality against the Nikon D7000, I thought that the D7000 is a much better camera overall. Sigma didn’t convince me to buy the SD15, but maybe this is a time for a new revolution. In terns on image quality, the SD1 can deliver amazing results. It is all depends on what Sigma has done with the new sensor. The sensor is a bit bigger than the previous sensors. It has a 1.5x crop factor and its provides a 15.3MP resolution. Sigma said that the camera is a 46MP DSLR camera, but actually, the camera takes only 15.3MP pictures. The reason Sigma writes 46MP instead of 46MP is probably related to marketing. Technically, the Foveon X3 sensor has three layers, so you can do the math yourself. I don’t mind that. What I do care is the image quality.

If the image quality of the Sigma SD1 will be on par with the SD15, we have a problem. If the image quality at high ISO will be much better, I will certainly think of getting the SD1 myself. According to Yahoo’s news, the camera will be available at February 2011. Yes, you will have to wait a bit if you want to get that camera. I think that the SD1 will outperform any DSLR camera on the market today, by a large margin!. The Sigma SD1 is also constructed using magnesium alloy. It means that it is much more durable than the Sigma SD15 before it. Actually, when I think about it, the SD1 doesn’t come to replace the SD15, but to become Sigma’s flagship digital SLR camera, if you think about it. Even so, I guess that many Sigma photographers will jump straight to their favorite photo store and but it.

Sigma was very bad when it comes to announcements and availability. It announced a camera that it took Sigma 2 years to be available of the shelf. Now I think Sigma is much more serious about its DSLR segment. Sigma knows that it has a great sensor, and this advantage has to be used now, not in two years or five years. Sigma is also a large lens manufacturer. That means that it has a good financial backup. Some photographers thought that the Sigma DSLR cameras will vanish from the world in 2010/2011, but Sigma proves us wrong. Sigma is here to stay, and maybe a year henceforth, we will see a Full Frame Foveon sensor!

A week ago, one of my friends told me that he is going to a vacation with his girlfriend. He took the Canon EOS 7D and two lenses with him. I am just before making a decision on a new camera gear purchase. The Canon EOS 7D is one of my favorite cameras. My friend has both the Caon 7D and the Canon 550D. I told him to shoot picture with the 7D, because I wanted to see the images and be sure that this is my next DSLR camera.

Everything was cool, until Sony has released it A55 translucent-mirror camera. You probably think that i am going nuts around here, thinking of grabbing the Sony SLT-A55 instead of the 7D. Well, I don’t. The Sony SLT-A55 has anything I need in a DSLR camera: fast continuous shooting, in-camera GSP (Yes!), 1080p HD videos, compact and lightweight. Overall the A55 seems like a great digital camera overall.

The last thing I am waiting for is for Nikon to come up with the replacement for the Nikon D90. The Nikon D90 is one of the best DSLRs for amateur and enthusiast photographers. I think that Nikon is doing the best it can to attract as many new amateur and enthusiast photographers to shoot with its gear. The D90 is a great camera, but needs a replacement urgently.

So when it comes to DSLR replacements, the best place to come up with the Nikon D90 replacement is Photokina 2010. Today is Monday 13/9/2010. Photokina will start on September 21, 2010. Yes!, just one week from now. Photokina is the largest digital imaging show in the world. The show will be held in Cologne, Germany. I am not going, but I will follow Photokina from a close range near my computer screen

I also expect that Olympus will come up will a new DSLR camera. Olympus is a company that innovated a lot. You can see what Olympus has done with the Four-Thirds standard (together with Panasonic). I think that Olympus will announce a new revolutionary camera this year. Samsung also told the press that it going to release a revolutionary new digital camera at Photokina. Every camera manufacturer becomes a revolutionary one?? – Confused?, me too!

What I am trying to say, is that the year 2010 will be a great year for digital photography. We already come along way from where we were a few years ago. Just look at digital cameras 10 years ago, just amazing how much we have achieved.

So if you want to buy a new digital camera, especially a DSLR camera, yo should just hold on a little longer, until all the new dSLR cameras will be announce. There is also the time manner. In terms of availability, most of the cameras which will be announce, will probably be available at the same day of the announcement. It means that the cameras will be shipped to different countries in the world, right after the announcement of those new cameras. Sometimes it takes longer, so you will probably have to wait a couple of weeks.

I know that it is hard waiting. But if you have waited until Photokina 2010 to decide which camera to buy, won’t you wait another couple of weeks to buy a new DSLR. The prices of older DSLR cameras will also get down for sure. I am sure that when the Nikon D95 will get announced, the price of the Nikon D90 will get down by a large margin.

I think for many of us, the problem won’t be the price, because we saved to buy a new DSLR camera. The problem will be with the wide variety of cameras to choose from. When it comes to buy a new DSLR camera, there are a lot of things to think about. After all, you are not just buying a DSLR camera, but also lenses, flash and other accessories. So you should think carefully before buying a new dSLR.

My friend has decided that he is going to buy the Pentax DSLR camera. He chose PENTAX because of their lens selection. Everybody makes up its own mind, and do it for its own photography needs. There are some photographers who choose to buy Nikon cameras because Nikon has great wide angle lenses. Other photographers choose Canon, because Canon has a large variety of telephoto-zoom lenses (great primes too!). So making the right decision takes time. I hope that before Photokina start, you will have an idea of what DSLR you need.

Again, Photokina will start on September 21, 2010. See ya there (well, at least on the Internet).

For me, as an hobbyist photographers, there are a lost of cameras to choose from. I was planning to make my biggest purchase after Photokina 2010. After all, new camera will be announced, and I was just finishing a project, so I will have more time for shooting pictures. I really enjoyed reading about new DSLR announcement in past month. It seems that this year is really a milestone, which will shows how the future will look like. Photokina will start on the September 21, 2010. I am guessing that the biggest announcement for 2010, are kept for Photokina.

Sony is company, which really surprised me when it introduces the translucent-mirror digital cameras. I am a fan of new technology innovations, but it has to improve upon something. If translucent-mirror cameras have brought 10fps continuous shooting and full-time AF while shooting videos, I am in. Nikon hasn’t really said anything about the new replacement for the Nikon D90. Yes, the Nikon D3100 is a nice addition to Nikon DSLR lineup, but I certainly want to see the D90 replacement soon.

I am eagerly waiting for Photokina 2010, which after it, I will buy a completely new photography gear.
